Pre-Course Questions

These are useful questions and answers for before you sign up for STEM In Place:

Can my child fill out the sign-up form?

Yes!

Are classes free?

Yes! All courses are completely free!

Can I sign up for multiple weeks?

Yes!

What if I took one of the courses last summer?

Most of our course curriculums have been redesigned or refurbished, so you will always learn something new in this summer's updated courses. We also have added three new courses this summer: Introduction to Economics, Introduction to the Biology of Cancer, and Web Dev.

My child is too young/too old to participate, but he/she really wants to! What do I do?

Email us at info@steminplace.com and we will help find a solution.

Can I see an instructor’s credentials?

You can email the instructor individually to request his/her credentials.

What is the camp schedule?

Class starts at 10:00 AM with a 45-minute synchronous session over Zoom that runs until 10:45 AM.

This is followed by a 15-minute break until 11:00 AM, where a second 45-minute synchronous session starts and runs until 11:45 AM.

Lunch runs from 11:45 AM to 12:30 PM.

Once per week, there will be a session for a guest speaker that runs from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM. For every other day of the week, camp is finished for the day.

All of the times listed are EST.

Click here for a visual representation of our daily schedule.

What is the objective of these week-long sessions?

For each course, we aim to:

  • Inspire and encourage students in the subject.

  • Teach students to a level where they are self-sufficient in pursuing a path with that subject.

  • Make sure students have fun while learning!

How will remote teaching work?

At least 48 hours prior to the start of the course, we will send out perpetual Zoom links that will act as the classroom for each course. For every session, unless specified otherwise, the student will log onto his/her classroom’s Zoom link to participate. Please ensure that your child’s computer has Zoom installed and has a working microphone & camera.

What materials do I need for my child's course?

At least 48 hours prior to the start of the course, the instructor will email your child the materials needed to prepare for the course. All materials needed will be commonly found items in a household. All necessary software and programs will be free.

Will there be homework? Projects? Discussions?

That will depend on the instructor of the course. However, any homework, discussion, or project is completely optional to participate in.

Should my child take notes?

We encourage students to take notes, but of course, notes are entirely optional. We may provide additional resources to facilitate learning & retention.

Can my child enroll in multiple courses simultaneously for a given week?

We highly discourage enrolling in multiple courses to prevent stress and overwork. Email us at info@steminplace.com if your child really wants to take multiple classes. We will determine on a case-by-case basis.

I have a question about the curriculum of the course. Whom should I contact?

Please contact the individual instructor for assistance.

My child would like to cancel/switch courses. What should I do?

Email us at info@steminplace.com and we will help you cancel or switch.
